i was born
a shotgun in my hands. behind the gun, i'll make my final stand.
"rock, paper, scissors." after losing the petty hand game to his brother for the fourth or fifth time, dean scowled angrily under his breath. "sonuva bitch" he retorted at sammy's smug look before heading off in the direction of the ominous set of trees in the forest. with the black cloud that hung heavy over the patch of land, there was no denying something was going on in the wooded area. the two winchesters had gone the best two out of three rounds in trying to decide who was going to check out the black cloud and who was going to stay at the car and flip through their information. dean, of course, had lost.
honestly, dean was bound to find more information in the woods than sammy was in all the archaic journals. after all, the hunter was sure nothing of this caliber had every happened in the history of man. perhaps this was what it was like, eons ago, when amara and god had gone at each other's throats. all he knew was that the chance of their survival, of all of their survival was pretty slim this time around. every demonic entity and thing that went bump in the night seemed to have been resurrected, creating a literal hell on earth. how they were going to combat it, he did not know.
the watch on his wrist told him it was nearly noon at this point but the deeper he went into the forest, the more the scenery told him it was late in the evening. the color of the sky wasn't the only thing that grew worse as he delved deeper toward the cause of it all. the smell of sulfur hung heavy in the air, as did the stench of decay. a few small brush fires had started in the near vicinity and in other parts, the foliage in its entirety had died off. whatever was ahead of dean was not something pleasant. that much was clear by the hell that had been unleashed in the city of seattle. the news stations from neighboring cities and states had labeled it as a natural disaster, blaming downed power lines and damaged buildings on high winds and rains. dean knew better though, as did nearly every hunter out there. the body count was rising and the foul play was not due to nature.
carefully picking his way through the wooded area, now in near darkness, dean's gaze struggled to adjust to the night. the temperature dropped from a comfortable humidity to something colder that sent a chill down his spine. he held his pistol out in front of him, hand on the trigger and ready to fire if the need to arose. he wasn't sure what he'd encounter but that was the name of the game when hunter was concerned. little did he realize, he had the potential to face every demon, monster, and danger of his past in these next few moments.
dean lowered his gun ever so slightly as he neared the portal - a giant black pit in the ground. the sod around his feet seemed to umulate, giving him a great sense of unease as he stared into the black hole-like sinkhole. "holy shit..." he muttered under his breath, eyes wide with shock. right then and now, he couldn't tell what this thing was, but he knew it wasn't good. hastily digging through his pockets with his spare hand, dean pulled out his phone to give sam a quick call. this was more than they were used to dealing with, even with having experienced the apocalypse and all, and he sure as shit needed to see it. problem was, the cell reception was completely lost. turning to head back toward the impala, he barely noticed the other figure in his presence.
